Finding No. 16

I've been thinking a lot about things lately, what I can change, what will make 2013 a better year. I don't want to be depressed and have panic attacks, and stress and cry, I did enough of that last year. Whilst I have no control over certain aspects of my life, there are a few that I can take control of and I've decided to be more particular in what I bring into our home.

I've devised a checklist, and an item must satisfy at least one criteria. These include:
  1. Is it for a collection?
  2. Is it a present for somebody else?
  3. Can I live without it?
  4. Do I need it for a particular purpose?
As the new school year has started and our local Newsagency has closed!, I nipped to the shops in search of a student diary. As is was just up the road from the opshop I decided to prolong my lunch and take a look inside. I spotted the mannequin at the back of the shop,  enquired about the price and asked if they could do a little better, and a deal was done. It satisfied my checklist  (#1 and 2) and was within budget.

I had a peek under the new fabric and could see the original linen underneath. The previous owner had glued the new fabric quite randomly in places, but the front came away well; the back is a bit of a shamozzle but not too bad in the long run. Some 'artist' had drawn a couple of nipples on the poor dear and I can only imagine the original drawing under the now scribbled black rectangle.

I am sure the No. 16 is original to the mannequin as the number also appears on the wooden stand. The stand looks deco, so I imagine it to be from the 40's.

Have a lovely week, enjoy Valentines and I will be back with a few photos of our day trip to the sea, and more of caravan #2, Tam x

Firstly Tam, I wish I could give you a big hug.
Secondly, I'm being so careful about the stuff I bring home too. So far this year, apart from a cow hide (in beautiful nick for thirty bucks) I have bought NOTHING!
Thirdly, I hope you keep the nipples - I like them.
(I like you too, take care Tam x)

I like your idea of having a check list very much. I operate a one-in- one - out policy on crockery, towels & teatowels - or try to. The manniquin is fabulous. Well done you! xx

Good luck with de-cluttering your home and your mind, Tam. I hope 2013 works out better for you. Big hugs.

Hi Tam,
Hope 2013 is a peaceful and happy one for you.
I am attempting to not bring so much home too, unless I can re-sell. We are going through a bit of a tough time at the mo and money is tight to say the least so I really do have to resist temptation!
M xx

l think all of us who collect have that dilemma about what comes home...l've brought home that much crap over the years with nowhere to put it, but still l'm tempted all the time... but at least the kids have houses l can fill now haha.
Love your dress forme Tam she's awesome, maybe you could draw some tatts on her and then her nipples would just blend in:-)) Hope you had a lovely Valentine's day..hubby and l muttered happy valentine to each other about %.00 oclock last night....SO romantic..hahaha!!!

Teehee, I'm giggling at the nipples and square muff on your new and fabulous mannequin. I'm glad you're feeling better, it takes a long time to start coming out of feeling depressed and anxious. Don't be cross with yourself if you fall back into old ways, they won't last as long as they did before xx

Sorry you had such a yuck time last year. Hope that this is your year. I think I might have to take on your check list as I really have to stop hoarding. I managed to clear four bags of clothes for overseas charity and I am sure I can clear a lot more.
What a great find. I must admit I did giggle at the nipples too. I wonder if they knew they were covering it so did it for a bit of a laugh. Hee hee.

Sorry to hear last year wasn't a good one for you, I've felt the same myself at times, and like you, I'm determined to make this year a better one. I should de-clutter too, but I really don't know where to start, I like all my stuff! That mannequin was a great find, and I like how you've hidden her nips with a glamorous stole. xx
