Etsy Treasury

Etsy is one of those places where you can spend hours. I know, because sometimes I do. There's some very talented people in this world, isn't there? I like that fact that you can buy items from all corners of the earth and at reasonable prices. Not only is it a great source of handmade pieces, but also vintage pieces too. For the last year or two I have purchased a number of Christmas and Birthday gifts from here.

Treasured Finds; Some Things to Share

Its been a while since I posted my treasured finds; to be fair I have not been searching or buying a lot lately, but I do have a few photos to share with you. I decided that this year I would only buy things that I either collect, or can't live without (or for the caravan). I've left a few pieces behind this year already!

I hope you all enjoy a fun filled weekend. We are heading to the coast to sort out our newest purchase, caravan #2. The kids are itching to go to the beach as they haven't been there in years. I will catch up with you all in a few days. Tam x

I asked the seller of the clock if it worked or if the ballerina danced. She said no to both, so she reduced the price. I was pleasantly surprised when I got home that the clock does work and the ballerina dances when you lift the dome. She is c1940's, made in West Germany.

2013 The Year of The Caravan

Hello! Its good to be back. I have had a lovely long break to clear the cobwebs and refresh for the new year. School and work have all started again and I am slowing getting back into a normal routine.

This year we have a few projects on the go. After searching for what seems forever, we now have a 1950's caravan which will be our focus for the new year. It will be given a full makeover, inside and out and decorated for the period. It should be fun and we are looking forward to it. Whilst it is not registered, it will only take a little modification before it will be roadworthy. Until then, it will make a great summer/guest house in the backyard and a lovely view while washing the dishes.

Here is a photo of our Millard Safari caravan pulled behind Henry (XY Ford) on our family holiday to Queensland. That's me as a baby, c1971. I don't remember our Queensland trip as I was too little but we travelled to Lightning Ridge and fossicked for opals when I was around 9. I remember sleeping in the annex and something rustling outside during the night. It sat in our backyard for many years. It was always stinking hot and had that funny smell (you know that one), teemed with Huntmen spiders inside. Our dad sold it in the late 80's. I wish he had kept it...that's why we've been looking for a new old one.

I will keep you posted on the renovation and hope to source some interesting bits and pieces at the swap meets this year. To celebrate the Centenary of Canberra, vintage caravans are travelling from all parts of Australia to meet on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin, its called the Museum of the Long Weekend. We will be tootling along to see and meet the owners that have travelled so far. I will be sure to take a few photos to share with you.

Thank you NSW RFS and Bungendore Fire Brigade

You may have seen the news and the terrible fires around NSW and Victoria over the last 24 hours. On Monday evening we received a catastrophic fire alert from the NSW Rural Fire Services for the following day.  We started monitoring the area early yesterday morning and kept informed through the Fires Near Me NSW app, twitter, facebook, news and local radio.

We had two close fires reignite after lighting strikes on Saturday, and a new bigger crowning fire (Sand Hills) in the tree tops 13 kms east of town, 1052 hectares burning. The highway between Bungendore and Braidwood was closed.  The fire was uncontrolled and we were on alert to evacuate if needed.

It was a very sleepless night and the firies have been working around the clock to keep the western and eastern sides controlled. This morning just before 6am the warning was updated to 'Advice' status and the fire is now controlled.

Thank you Bungendore Fire Brigade, NSW RFS crew and volunteers that have kept us safe and informed. Lets hope the fires are out soon.
