Our local council have earmarked two heritage homes on the main thoroughfare through town to be removed or demolished. In their place they propose to build a new supermarket and carpark (we already have one supermarket that is in the planning stages of an extension).
The village of Bungendore is a 15 minute drive away from the nearest regional centre where there are three major supermarkets. Drive a little further (30 minutes in total) and you will find yourself in the Australian Capital, Canberra.
The local community have started a petition to try and save our heritage buildings:

I agree I wish more would have been saved over the years....good luck, Heidi
Hi Tam,what a senseless act it'd be to tear that lovely old house down, and good on YOU for bringing it to peoples' attention, lets hope common sense prevails. Hope it's not too cold there... Tam enjoy your weekend.
Just signed the petition. Hope the town can turn around the decision. We are currently facing the Qld State Govt closing and selling off both my old High School, and my Husband's old Primary School, for the land! 2 of the 8 schools up for closure are ours :-( so I wish you luck in saving yours xx.
