You may have seen the news and the terrible fires around NSW and Victoria over the last 24 hours. On Monday evening we received a catastrophic fire alert from the NSW Rural Fire Services for the following day. We started monitoring the area early yesterday morning and kept informed through the Fires Near Me NSW app, twitter, facebook, news and local radio.
We had two close fires reignite after lighting strikes on Saturday, and a new bigger crowning fire (Sand Hills) in the tree tops 13 kms east of town, 1052 hectares burning. The highway between Bungendore and Braidwood was closed. The fire was uncontrolled and we were on alert to evacuate if needed.
It was a very sleepless night and the firies have been working around the clock to keep the western and eastern sides controlled. This morning just before 6am the warning was updated to 'Advice' status and the fire is now controlled.
Thank you Bungendore Fire Brigade, NSW RFS crew and volunteers that have kept us safe and informed. Lets hope the fires are out soon.

Glad you're okay Tam, hope it stays that way. Scary stuff.
Bit un-nerving,glad to hear you are all ok.The weather has been awful, hasn't it? Gypsy Sister in Tasmania was very near the Richmond fires and was told to evactuate. So many people suffering at the start of a new year. Hope you don't have anymore lightning.
so glad you are OK and thanks for posting so we were not all wondering how you were. Stay safe over the rest of the week/ weekend, sounds like it is not all over just yet. thinking of you.
Ho Tamara.
Ho visto alla televisione degli incendi che vi stanno colpendo...spero che ora sia tutto sotto controllo!
Tienici aggiornate e ti abbraccio forte, *Maristella*.
I sat down to watch the news late last night and couldn't believe the raging ferocity of the fires in Australia. I immediately thought of you and hoped you were ok. The Mr said it was nowhere near where you live - I can now tell him he's wrong! I do hope there is no more lightning, the winds calm down and they can get the fires under control. Thinking of you ... stay safe. M xx
Hope you stay safe!

Oh Tam what a frightening time. It's awful what carnage such extreme conditions can cause. Keeping my fingers & toes crossed that the flames ease & don't come anywhere near you. I hope you're surviving the heat as well. Take care. Xx
I was thinking of you last night when listening to the radio. It is amazing to hear a new colour or two have been added to the weather map to accommodate the new high temperatures. I hope you have no more 'pinks' and 'purple' days.
I was not aware....take care Heidi
Really glad you're safe!
SO glad that you and your family are safe. take care.
Oh Tam how scary for you guys and so sorry that you had to go through all that, but really glad that you're safe for now, it's the worst thing about Summer isn't it. The fires at Carnham were not too far from our place but much closer to my brother and his family...they had too had a restless day and night Tuesday...thanks so much for thinking of us..stay safe.xo
PS. Thankfully technology keeps us pretty well informed and yes thanks a million to all our amazing firefighters.

I hope the weather conditions calm down for you all over there, I can't imagine what it must be like living with the fear of fire all around you, also how unbearable the heat must be. Hope your area continues to be safe and this extreme weather stops soon. xx
